2009 bronze, 2011 silver, 2014 bronze medal at World Championship CARNIVOROUS ARTIFICIAL BAIT SHORE ANGLING (i.e. "Spinning for Trout from Shore")

From 2013 - Chief of Commetee, main organisator of Trout Union Cup - International project of making sport spinning fishing tournaments, based at international rules, where only trouts are objects of fishing.
Since very young age, even before school, love in nature, rivers and fish were born. Taking rod in hand a way of life was chosen.

To choose the right lure today it’s pretty hard. Market offers many models with different range of price and different characteristics. On this occasion we will clarify why DUO Spearhead Ryuki 50S and ZipBaits Rigge Flat 50S are one of the favorite lure’s of trout fisherman’s and even among those who just entered in the world of spinning trout’s. Both models that we consider here are sinking long cast models which very easy adapt to almost any conditions on the water, be it a stream or lake and below we will explain why.

Balance system

In this regard ZipBaits can be proud on their patented balance system called MAG Drive. As can be seen on picture below, on bronze-bored shaft set through the center of chamber is placed tungsten weight with attached magnet. At the end of chamber or at lure tail manufacturer set rubber cushion while at the other side steel plate is installed. Steel plate constantly pull’s up magnet or in this case, whole main tungsten weight. At normal retrieving tungsten weight with magnet is attached to steel plate because there is not enough force to separate it. However, while we cast, we produce force enough to detach magnet from plate which then moves to lure tail what provides us significantly better and longer casts. Similar situation happens when we use twich technique. Then tungsten weight in short time change position many times. Effect what we get provides excellent characteristics and one the most important of them is that itself create an action – change direction, lean or twist position. That is one of the advantage’s what wanted to achieve with these balance system. It’s accomplished very successfully and difference is made.

In their lure series called Spearhead Ryuki, DUO use much different balance system. Lure interior is used for installing magnet and two moving ball’s. Attainment of this system, depends of retrieving style, is that front moving ball occasionally is attracted by magnet while other one freely moves through chamber. While we twich, moving ball’s often change positions what gives effect of movement lightness. Moving ball’s bumping one at the other with also creates rattle effect which is also one of the way’s to attract hesitant predator to attack.

Body design and colors

In profile, Ryuki have much thinner body, shorter and thinner lip. Body is more curved while belly is almost straight. Design like it, allows long and accurate casts. With it, manufacturer justify the name of series ‘’Spearhead’’. Situation is little bit different looking at Rigge. Complex balance system don’t allows thinner body, but manufacturer made it thinner by height. Installed lip is bigger and wider which provides wider range of lure movements.

Both manufacturers offer great color chart, from the almost perfect natural imitations to attractive competition colors. Here we talk about two great lure manufacturers so color quality, lure quality and durability are not questionable. These lure’s can be treated and exposed to different conditions many times and they will catch many many trout’s before they lose color or break down.

Lure performance

Description of lure performances is directly related on balance system facts. Description of lure performance is based on twich technique of lure retrieving, because of it, both of lures gives best results and catch rate. For those who doesn’t know about twich technique - it is technique based on just alternate movements of rod what retrieve lure in short intervals, while line or braid is collected during breaks.

In such retrieving style Ryuki is significantly more active with sharp reactions even on less powered twich. It’s advantage can be used easily on shallow parts of rivers. Because of thin body with weight of 4,5 grams sink quite fast so manipulation with it, on rivers with sandbars and naturally deeper parts, is much easier if lure need to be moved up or sink in trout’s sight.

Rigge is a little bit different in that point of view. Bigger and wider lip on twich retrieve reflects slightly lower lure activity but increases wider movements. Weight is partly responsible. Rigge is 18% more heavier that Ryuki. To a full expression MAG drive system gives to lure movements even at the short breaks where lure stay on designated depth. Stability is expressed if we choose to retrieve equably. Best efficiency of this sinking model is on larger and deeper river with stronger river streams and expressed differences in depth because guarantee is that lure stay stabile, sinks very fast and it is adjustable to retrieve style changes.

From descriptions we can conclude that both models are very well balanced, have excellent performance and together cover most of conditions what trout fisherman’s are faced off. Now, it is much clearer why these models are so popular for fishing trout’s, freely and in competition world of spinning trout’s. From all listed facts, these are two models, what we can easily classify in TOP 10 trout lures of modern fishing.

Both models are heavier than usual trout lures and bigger force is needed to cast and retrieve lures so don’t use extra light trout rods. Best fit are rods up to 7-12 gr lure weight, where we recommend models GAD Gancho 1,5-8,0 gr or 3,0-12,0 gr as best for it in the middle class of rods.

Also, from the same reason, recommended line is not thinner 0,16 mm.

Snaps are also important in fishing with wobblers. Snaps what are used for it generally are with wide construction range. Wide construction range don’t interfere in lure performance and give it enough space for movements. That’s why Pontoon21 Spiral snaps are best choice.
