According to its size and length, Flint is somewhere between picker and light feeder rods. However the first exam already tells us about a certain power margin. Outwardly, the rod happened to be quite attractive in spite of the fact that natural cork wood was replaced with the pressed one, also a simpler reel seat was used. The handle has a usual for all Briscola rods slim fit form. The diameter of the tip corresponds to the common standard for Granito-MArmo, which is quite useful because the tips all three series are interchangeable.

First test

For the first time I went to the closest pond with a new rod, literally for a couple of hours. That was a classic picker fishing – the distance was 18 meters, small light feeders, thin leaders, small hooks and small fishes in the haul. The rod perfectly dealt with that task. Blank has a high tactile sensitivity – if your finger touches the blank, you can easily feel the biting, even without looking at a tip. The reverberation is lower in comparison with Marmo, but still quite high

Serious trial

However it was obvious that the potential of this rod isn’t limited with roach or small bream. And I would like to reveal this potential. Soon enough, I had a nice opportunity to do it. That was angling at a new carp pond where the average size of fish is 3 kilos.

In the beginning I tried to catch carp with the help of flat feeder method, casting the feeder literally to the bushes of the other bank. The distance was more than 40 meters, working at this distance didn’t pose any difficulties. Even taking into account the fact that aerodynamics of the method feeder is much better than the usual one. It was clear that this rod has better casting qualities than my favorite Granito picker rods. The main question was how it would cope with carp. We had to wait it to be answered. Method-feeder didn’t bring any results, I had to change my position and use a classic open-end feeder. Eventually the carp did bite. The rod perfectly reacted to all the jerks of the fish, though it has a clearly faster action than Granito rods. Nevertheless, it enabled us to quiet the carp quite easily and send it to the net.

Surely, to make the image complete we need many more trials with this tackle, but we can say without any hesitation: in spite of its acceptable price, the designers managed to create a beautiful, working rod, which may solve a wide range of tasks starting with speedy fishing of small species and ending with carps of significant size
